About
The Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies
The Trisong Institute is a multidisciplinary hub dedicated to the preservation and transmission of Himalayan wisdom. We bridge the gap between traditional Buddhist scholarship and the rigorous standards of modern academia, providing a comprehensive suite of linguistic services, including textual translation and oral interpretation.
Excellence in Transmission
Our work is grounded in a "high-fidelity" approach to the Dharma. Whether navigating the complexities of classical philosophical treatises or providing nuanced oral interpretation for high-level initiations, the Institute maintains a standard of absolute precision. Our expertise spans decades of experience with the living Himalayan traditions in Asia, specializing in the precise transmission of Buddhist texts and the nuanced interpretation of oral teachings.
The Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies
Institutional Integrity. Philological Precision. Lineage Preservation.
The Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies is a sovereign research and translation body dedicated to the high-level preservation and interpretation of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Operating under the legal framework of Trikaya Tibetan SRL, a registered entity in the European Union (EU), the Institute bridges the gap between traditional immersion and modern scholarly standards, providing authoritative linguistic support to the global Buddhist community and to students of Tibetan culture and language worldwide.
Based in Europe, the Institute specializes in Classical and Colloquial Tibetan, offering archival-grade translation, expert oral interpretation, and specialized language instruction.
While our core focus remains the Tibetan tradition, our multidisciplinary committee provides secondary support in the critical languages of Asian Buddhist transmission, including Sanskrit, Pāḷi, and Chinese.
We partner with Buddhist lineage holders, Dharma centers, monastic foundations, academic institutions, and international publishers to ensure that sacred transmissions are rendered with the technical accuracy and philosophical depth they demand.

Our Story:
How It All Began
The Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies was founded by Erick Tsiknopoulos, a professional Tibetan-English translator, interpreter, and scholar with extensive training in traditional Tibetan Buddhist communities.
After spending over 11 years living and studying in India and Nepal, including long-term study under His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and many other great Tibetan spiritual masters and scholars, Erick established Trikāya Tibetan SRL as an officially registered company within the European Union in 2020, in order to provide expert Tibetan language and scholarship services to the global Buddhist community. This was the seed of what later developed into the Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies.

Our Mission:
Building Bridges of Wisdom through Translation & Language Services
We preserve and transmit the wisdom of Buddhist literature through accurate, scholarly translation, and to make the Tibetan language accessible to students and practitioners worldwide.
Our work bridges ancient wisdom and modern scholarship, ensuring that traditional Buddhist teachings and Tibetan literature remain available and accessible for current and future generations.

On the Name “Trisong”
The Trisong Institute takes its name from King Trisong Detsen (ཁྲི་སྲོང་ལྡེ་བཙན།), an eighth-century Tibetan ruler remembered for his support of Buddhist learning and translation.
The name reflects our commitment to careful scholarship, collaboration between teachers and translators, and the preservation and transmission of Tibetan literature.

A Tradition of Learning and Translation
Trisong Detsen’s legacy offers a point of reference for our work: bringing linguistic expertise, traditional learning, and collaboration together in service of the Dharma.
Under the Trisong Institute of Tibetan Studies, our translation and interpretation services support the careful transmission of texts and oral teachings. The Trisong Tibetan Language Academy provides language instruction, while the Trikāya Translation Committee retains its name and its role as a collaborative network of scholars, translators, and teachers.
Our commitment remains the same: to preserve the meaning and precision of the original teachings, present them in clear language, and respond thoughtfully to the needs of practitioners, students, and researchers.
